Ringo Starr's Facel Vega II heads to auction

On sale on December 1, 2013, the Facel Vega II which was originally owned by The Beatles' drummer, Ringo Starr, will be on auction at Bonhams in London. Expecting to fetch $580,000, the Facel Vega II is a very rare car.

Facel was a French carmaker, formed by Jean Daninos in 1954. The Facel Vega II was only produced for three years from 1961 to 1964. It is said that only 180-190 Facel Vega II's were produced during that three year span. Don't let the looks fool you either, this baby packs a punch!

With a 6.3-litre Chrysler V8 dubbed 'Typhoon', produced 390hp when equipped with a manual. Coming out of the early sixties that's a lot of power. Ringo Starr fitted his Facel Vega II with an even bigger 6.7-litre Chrysler v8 'RB'. Starr's Vega II was reported that it could easily top 250 km/h. Not too shabby.
